Digitization Update: January 2012

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Our year is off to a very good start in terms of progress in the digital library!

In the month of January, we got 13,292 items through metadata review, 10,482 of those items have subsequently made it through copyright review. We’ve been concentrating on working on copyright in all of our active collections to make sure each export into the digital library has unique and interesting items from a variety of our partners. This past month you should see new items in the Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, Harvard College Library and Theodore Roosevelt National Park collections along with items from the Library of Congress Manuscripts division.

The digital library now holds a little over 9,000 items and we hope to keep up the pace on metadata and copyright reviewing to keep that number growing steadily!

We just started a new volunteer training session that will finish at the end of this month. We hope that adding to our volunteer corps will help us continue to add new items to our metadata and copyright review queues. You can learn more about our volunteer program here.

Our staff is continuing to focus on metadata and copyright review of already cataloged materials as our volunteers work on cataloging new materials. Metadata review is currently in incoming correspondence of 1903 and we recently finished copyright review in Roosevelt’s correspondence from 1902 for the Library of Congress manuscript collection. Copyright review will be moving back into incoming correspondence of 1902 and 1903. Metadata and copyright review is also ongoing in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Sagamore Hill National Historic Site and Harvard College Library collections.
